Does
Your Heart Skip Beats?
Studies
show that all of us have occasional irregular heartbeats,
though most of the time we're not even aware of it.
Some people notice irregular heartbeats throughout
the day, while others notice the irregularity mainly
when they are quiet and, particularly, when they go
to sleep at night.
As
for me, I occasionally notice irregular beats when
I first lie down, particularly after I have eaten
a large meal late in the evening (not something I
recommend or do with regularity). A slowed heartbeat,
combined with the diversion of blood into the digestive
tract area of the absorbed food, often contributes
to these minor and benign irregularities.
The
most common type of irregular heartbeat is really
premature contractions of the large pumping chamber
in the heart. After an early (or premature) beat,
there is a slightly longer pause in the heart rate.
Usually it is this longer pause that gets our attention.
There
are five natural supplements that will help control
this premature beat pattern, and assist in leveling
out and controlling your heart rhythm: hawthorn berry,
magnesium, taurine, Co Q-10 and Notoginseng. I take
all of these daily as part of a cardiac supplement
simply to prevent any future problem.
Hawthorn
berry (250 mg daily) serves to regulate the heartbeat
as well as strengthen the heart.
The
mineral magnesiumin the oxide and citrate formwill
help keep heart rhythm normal. A dose of at least
150 mg daily is recommended. I take a total of 550
mg including that in a daily supplement.
