Supplements: A Simple Step for Optimal Health
Did
you know that one of the simplest steps you can take
for optimal health is a multivitamin-mineral supplement?
That's right. A good program of natural supplements
daily can protect you in today's world where disease
is like we've never seen it-both malignant and contagious.
In fact, scientists tell us that six of the ten major
causes of disease are related to what we put in our
mouth. And now, study after study is coming out on
the benefits of natural supplements.
Recently,
researchers at Memorial University of Newfoundland
studied a supplement that had 18 ingredients-a vitamin-mineral
supplement with trace elements. They found an increase
in short-term memory and an increase in immune function
among individuals using the daily supplement. This
was reported in Nutrition Magazine just a few months
ago.
Other
studies at the University of Iowa found that nutritional
deficiencies significantly increase as we get older,
and supplement use has been shown to eliminate these
deficiencies. And another study, reported in the American
Journal of Clinical Nutrition, found that multivitamin
and mineral supplements taken daily can boost lymphocyte
and immune system function. Relating to this, researchers
in Canada examined over 760 frail and older adults
who were in fairly poor health when they began the
study. The researchers did only one simple thing:
they put this group on a multivitamin. Incredibly,
the individuals taking supplements had 14 percent
fewer infections than those not on a daily supplement.
But
why can't we just "eat right" to get the
nutrition we need? Unfortunately, it's not that simple.
Today, we cannot obtain all the nutrients we need
from food by itself. Our foods are not as nutritious
as they were years ago. You see, our topsoils have
become depleted of many minerals; and as farmers rely
more and more on chemical sprays and synthetic fertilizers,
the crops we harvest are slowly declining in nutritional
value.
